Council-Wide
Recognition Nominations
The year may just be starting;
however, it is never too early to think about award nominations.
Each service unit has received the Adult Recognition in Girl
Scouting book (in the Volunteer Resources Guide and on the
council website) that has information about council-wide awards.
Think about the volunteers you know. Have they gone above and
beyond? Remember, all volunteers who are current registered
members in good standing may be eligible for an award. There are
many types of awards from earned to award through nomination.
Volunteers can nominate other volunteers. Please take time at
your next service meeting to discuss the various awards. All
nominations are due to the Girl Scout Regional Office by January
31, 2009. If you need nomination forms, or an Adult Recognition
in Girl Scouting book, please contact the Girl Scout Regional
Office.
Safety-Wise Announcement - Changes to Safety-Wise 2000
Edition
A new edition of Safety-Wise
will be released in spring 2009. In order to fully prepare the
document for the impact of the New Girl Scout Leadership
Experience and to accommodate the valuable recommendations of
council volunteers and staff, the publication process has been
postponed. Changes for October 1, 2008, are listed on our
council website. The new edition of Safety-Wise will be
online as well as in print version. Check out the council
website for more information. Click

2008 Girl Scout Fall
Product Sale
Girl Scouts of Western Ohio is
excited about teaming up with Trophy Nut, this year’s Fall
Product vendor. Trophy Nut has been working with Girl Scouts
since 1992 and is based locally in Tipp City, Ohio.
“Express Yourself - Through the Arts” is the theme for
the 2008 Fall Product Sale. This theme is designed to encourage
girls to explore their creative side and take the lead in
expressing themselves to the world. Each troop will receive a
troop program packet containing age-level activity sheets that
will help girls explore the theme while also completing Girl
Scout badge work. In addition, the packet contains other
resources to assist troops in conducting a successful Fall
Product Sale, such as goal setting, safety tips, and life
skills.
By participating in the Fall Product Sale, you are giving the
girls in your troop the opportunity to learn important life
skills such as finance, responsibility, teamwork, and

Family
Partnership is YOUR pathway to discovering ways to help girls
learn about themselves, to connecting to girls’ activities, and to
acting to make their world a better place.
It’s a great time to start
planning for fun activities for Family Partnership as your new
membership year begins. Parents’ meetings, new leaders’
meetings, and service unit team meetings are good places to ask
for donations – remind people that contributing on the
registration form (theirs or their daughter’s) is quick and
easy. What about those fall events – camping, father/daughter
dance – have a drawing for a basket the girls can make or for a
gift certificate for fall yard work the girls can do (service
and fund raising). Put Family Partnership on your service unit’s
webpage – let the internet do the work!
“I’m watching my pocket book very closely this year,” explained
one Family Partnership donor. “But even though my donation is
small, I still want to give so the girls will be able to put
their values and beliefs into action.”
Share your great ideas with all of us! Contact the Development
Manager in your region.
